About the Academy

 The International Academy of Estate and Trust Law (IAETL) is a nonprofit organization of the leading trust and estate lawyers and law professors from around the world. Founded in 1975 in Los Angeles, California, the Academy now has over 350 members in 54 countries who are the leading practicing lawyers and law professors in the trust and estate field in both common law and civil law jurisdictions. Members of the Academy are experts in all aspects of succession law, trust and foundation law, guardianship, the administration of decedent’s estates and successions, and related tax areas. Members are also experts in the cross-border and comparative law aspects of the trusts and estates practice and related tax practices as well as bilateral and multilateral treaties that address succession law and related tax law matters.
 
Membership in the Academy provides members with the opportunity to draw on and benefit from the expertise of other members on legal and tax issues that arise around the world. The Academy’s annual meeting, which is only open to members of the Academy, provides an outstanding opportunity for members to network, to learn about trust and estate law and related topics in different countries and to develop deep professional and social relationships. The Academy’s annual meeting is known for its collegiality and conviviality as well as its one-of-a-kind professional program. Membership in the Academy is by invitation only.
